Back story
In 1990 I joined Peter Davies in a company called Artec, in Corby.
I designed for Artec a range of cars which we will include in the website anon, basicly aimed at the Caribbean market, through Jamaica, where Peter had spent a lot of time and had many friends.
He was a friend of Tom Wheatcroft, who owned the Donnington race circuit. Tom had a huge collection of past Grand Prix cars and had an ambition to produce a classic styled race car.
He wanted to create a supporting event/race for all F1 races around the world. A grid of identical classic styled GP cars with modern mechanicals where you could see the drivers at work, elbows, drifting through the corners etc.
Various F1 designers had had a go at designing the car for Tom but none were right.
I started doing sketches for him. The first two were not right, then this one, exactly what he wanted.
I found the perfect powertrain in the GM Lotus Omega. Straight 6 and 5 speed manual transmission.
Unfortunatley I left the company before the cars were built and some moron Changed everything, including shortening it so it ended p more like and American dirt racer than the elegant European racer.
Anyhow this line drawing and the associated coloured drawing I did for Tom is how it should have been.
